CO.ME.CA. S.p.A. specialises in the construction of any parts for steelworks, from electric furnaces to ladles, from scrap metal lifting baskets to billet unloading and collection systems with cooling beds, from billet lifting rocker arms to complete continuous casting plants and plants for crushing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap.
ROLLING MILLS
CO.ME.CA. S.p.A. builds plants for rolling mills such as billet preheating furnaces, pusher machines, roller ways, “Tempcore” wire rod cooling systems, rolling stands and any other part built either to its
own or to the customer’s design. This bespoke approach is of great advantage to customers who can obtain products customised in every part and built to meet any specific needs.
SCS 1000 LADLE SLIDE GATE AND PCS 500 TUNDISH SLIDE GATE
The SCS 1000 ladle slide gate originates from the need for a product that can keep up with the increasingly hectic production rhythms of modern steelworks while guaranteeing simple assembly, disassembly and maintenance. The product’s added values are great simplicity, compact dimensions, extreme speed and excellent performance.

Furthermore, CO.ME.CA. S.p.A. has also developed a tundish slide gate, model PCS500, currently in service in three trial steelworks. Thanks to the direct collaboration of our personnel with the user engineers, this new product has solved various issues generally present in current systems.
MECHANICAL MACHINING
CO.ME.CA S.p.A.’s mechanical engineering department extends overa surface area of 3500 sq.m and includes a turning area with 8 parallellathes sized from Ø 200 x 1500 to Ø 700 x 4000, 5 CNC lathes
with machining size up to Ø 920 x 5000 (Ø 1400 on the guides)and 1 Ø 2300 vertical lathe. There is also a milling/boring area with6 CNC machining centres for sizes up to 10,000 mm horizontally, 3,000 vertically and 1,500 transversally, and 1 boring machine withmobile upright. The department also includes grinding machines forinternal and external applications for sizes up to Ø 700 x 1500, band
saws with cutting capacities up to Ø 420, slotting machines, drills andgrinding wheels of various sizes.
These machines are served by 10 overhead travelling cranes withcapacities ranging from 5 to 15 tons and jib cranes with capacities from 0.5 to 1 ton. Our warehouse always stocks various qualities and sizes of steels for construction work and tool-making in order to be able to suitably and timely respond to any customer request.
MACHINING OF ROLLING MILL ROLLS
CO.ME.CA. S.p.A. specialises in machining cast iron and tungsten carbide rolls for rolling mills and provides a special antislip treatment by applying a specific filler. Furthermore, we can notch the rolling mill rolls in accordance with the customer’s specifications.
MACHINING OF ELECTRODES
CO.ME.CA. S.p.A. can also perform the rethreading of carbon graphite electrodes. In order for the electrode to be repaired, the electrode section must have the following specifications: Section: minimum length 400 mm, in the case of an existing threaded box. Column: any length and shape min. Ø 200 mm, max. Ø 600 mm. Tip: minimum length 800 mm.
